Gboard is Google’s Android keyboard for writing messages, searches, emails and other text. It suits people who want a familiar keyboard with several ways to enter text, including standard tapping, sliding across letters, voice dictation and handwriting input. It also supports typing across a wide range of languages and language varieties.
Glide Typing lets you form words by moving your finger from letter to letter instead of tapping each key. Voice typing is useful when speaking is easier than typing, while handwriting input supports printed or cursive characters where available. The keyboard also includes emoji search, GIF search and translation as you type, keeping these tools close to the text field.
Gboard includes practical gestures and layout options, such as moving the cursor by sliding across the space bar, deleting several words with a swipe, showing a dedicated number row and using a one-handed layout. It also supports Wear OS devices with features such as typing, voice input and emoji entry on compatible watches. Some functions may vary by device, Android edition or language.
Published by Google LLC in the Tools category, Gboard has a 4.53 rating from more than 18 million reviews and an install range of 10,000,000,000+. That combination points to unusually broad use as well as strong user feedback: the score is backed by a very large review sample rather than a small group of ratings.
