Google NotebookLM

Research notes built around your sources

Google NotebookLM is a productivity app for turning your own reference material into a searchable workspace. It suits students, researchers, writers and anyone working with several documents on the same subject. Add sources such as PDFs, websites, YouTube links or text, then use the app to ask questions and explore the material in one place.

Answers tied to the material

The app is designed to keep its responses grounded in the sources you provide rather than treating a general web search as the answer. It can summarise documents, identify useful points and respond to follow-up questions. Inline citations help you check where an answer comes from, which is useful when accuracy matters more than a quick overview.

Read, listen and direct the discussion

NotebookLM also offers Audio Overviews that turn source material into a podcast-style conversation between AI hosts. This gives users another way to review notes or background reading when reading is inconvenient. You can steer the discussion by asking the system to focus on particular topics within the material.

What the numbers say

Google LLC publishes NotebookLM in the Productivity category under package com.google.android.apps.labs.language.tailwind. Its 4.8 rating is backed by 132,099 reviews, alongside an install range of 10,000,000+. That combination gives the score more context than a rating shown on its own: a large audience has both used the app and contributed to its current standing.
